Grounded in a real world, gritty authenticity, THE MERCENARY (known in some territories as LEGION MAXX), features former French Foreign Legionnaire and martial arts expert Dominiquie Vandenberg in its title role alongside veteran genre actors Louis Mandylor (RAMBO: LAST BLOOD) and Carmen Argenziano (THE ACCUSED, BROKEN ARROW).

Dominiquie Vandenberg is the real deal when it comes to action. Originally from Belgium, he competed in many martial arts competitions as a teenager and left school at age sixteen to enrol in a Kunto training course in Okinawa, Japan.
His fighting career was interrupted for a short spell when he was drafted into the Belgian military, but he continued to impress on the martial arts circuit until a car accident that left him unable to compete.
Despondent, Vandenberg left Belgium to join the French Foreign Legion and chose to serve in the elite paratrooper regiment, the 2REP, spending several years in conflict zones such as Chad, Nigeria, and the Central African Republic, fighting to control rebellions.
When Vandenberg left the Legion, before returning to Europe, he travelled to Thailand to fight in their famed freestyle fighting rings, or "iron circles", winning several bouts.
Vandenberg has worked as an actor and stunt co-ordinator on titles such as MORTAL KOMBAT, BEOWULF and TRIPLE THREAT.
Now resident in Los Angeles, Vandenberg has worked extensively in the movie industry as an actor and stunt co-ordinator on titles such as MORTAL KOMBAT, BEOWULF and TRIPLE THREAT. He received praise for his work as fight choreographer on GANGS OF NEW YORK from director Martin Scorcese who said, "Dominiquie Vandenberg is a modern-day warrior poet whose fight choreography is like a ballet that he mixes with images from a brutal past. A natural talent that was born in blood."
Drawing on all Vandenberg's real life experiences, THE MERCENARY is the story of Maxx, a legionnaire turned mercenary.
Synopsis: When a mission in South America goes wrong Maxx is left for dead, but he is nursed back to health and reborn with a new outlook on life. He tries to live tranquilly within the confines of his new beliefs surrounded by his new friends at a church, but his peaceful days are short-lived when mercenaries he used to work with cross his path again and he is forced to revisit and face his own demons. His brutal past, war and violence have come looking for him again. His path to redemption is interrupted and Maxx becomes an avenging warrior using the skills that were once his trade.
