Three intertwining stories explore the effects of MNEMOPHRENIA, a new psychosis caused by advanced Virtual Reality that blends real and artifical memories.
In the near future, JEANETTE is making a documentary to raise awareness about the new condition, having discovered her first love Douglas was a fake memory from a VR film series.
Years later, Jeanette’s grandson NICHOLAS – one of the first humans born mnemophrenic – is developing the next generation of the technology, which he believes can be used for good; but he is caught between his own ideals, his funders’ corporate agenda, and an underground group advocating an all-mnemophrenic society.
By the time of his granddaughter ROBYIN, the whole world is mnemophrenic. She is leading research into shared consciousness through mnemophrenia using brain-implanted chips. When she discovers she has a rare blood disease, she sees a rare opportunity to explore her mortality for the benefit of humankind, shepherding it towards its next evolutionary step.

The question it poses is: what is more real than your memories? The technology in the film has created, from an objective perspective, “fake” memories: but the effect those memories have are very real, causing people to make consequential life choices. Each of the characters represents a different opinion about the importance or not of how “real” their memories are. Instead of the purely dystopian futures presented by most sci-fi films, MNEMOPHRENIA offers a glimpse of a technological society that can learn to embrace the different, where empathy can be achieved through technology, and where the merging of biological and digital may lead to a new humankind.
