A MANCHESTER STORY is directed by student & Mancunian, Anton Arenko.
Two years on since the Manchester Arena Bombing, a new documentary currently in production, is hoping for a Cinema release. Described as a positive documentary A MANCHESTER STORY aims to give an insight into the kind and noble actions of people connected to the bombing as well as the city of Manchester uniting together in the aftermath.
Even though the film is still in production, an Indiegogo page has been set up to fund the remainder of filming, as well as obtaining a BBFC rating so the film is eligible for release in UK Cinemas. You can donate here: www.indiegogo.com/projects/a-manchester-story-a-positive-documentary
Filming A MANCHESTER STORY began in May of 2019.
Filming began in May of this year around the time of the second anniversary. Beginning with campaigner and activist Figen Murrary who tragically lost her son Martyn Hett. She is fighting for tighter security at public venues to become the law. Others also include survivor Adam Lawler who was just 15 at the time of the bombing and currently engages in work experience with notable DJ Clint Boon at the popular radio station XS Manchester. In addition is first responder Aaron Parmer, who ran a total of 22 marathons for each of the victims raising over £15,000 for charity. Filming hopes to be concluded by the end of 2019 with many more people to feature in the film still to be announced.
At 21 and going into his third year at University, the film is directed by Mancunian Anton Arenko. His aim is to show a unique angle overlooked by previous documentaries.
Director Anton Arenko: “The idea to do the film came at the time of the first anniversary. I was watching documentaries put out by broadcasters and afterwards it left me with a sense of unease. I felt they only stayed with the bombing itself. After doing some research I found out about the amazing achievements and efforts of survivors, victim families and others. I knew these stories just needed to be told. We want to show the world the humanity Manchester has as a great city, by its people. Getting it in Cinemas is our dream.”
The film is the first to be produced by Spread Like Wildfire Films. More can be found on the films twitter page: https://twitter.com/AManchesterSto1
