Freddie Foreman documentary, FRED is available now on DVD. Digital & Netflix.
At 86, Freddie Foreman is the last of the Krays generation of old school British criminals. Born in Battersea in 1932, Fred grew up in the Blitz, a time when London was under the constant barrage of German bomber raids and the deadly doodlebugs that would stall over London’s skyline before whistling out of the sky to deadly indiscriminate effect.
Freddie Foreman first job was working at the meat market.
Leaving school with little education, Fred’s first job was working at the meat market, but it was hard, cold work and Fred wanted more for him and his family, and so began his life of crime.
Starting off stealing white goods and TV’s that he sold on at a 1/3 of the price, Fred soon moved up the criminal ladder taking part in armed robberies, bank jobs and bullion raids, whilst sensibly investing the money into properties and businesses.
Freddie built up a fierce reputation as a robber, business man and executioner.
By this time FRED had built up a fierce reputation as a robber, business man and executioner, and whilst not indulging in violence for violence sake, if someone stepped out of line he would retaliate with brutal force. With wife, kids and wealth all looked rosie for Fred, but all that changed when he became associated with “the terrible twins… then all was ugliness”.
As a Krays associate Fred became involved with the shooting of the ‘mad axeman’ Frank Mitchel.
As a Krays associate Fred became involved with the shooting of the ‘mad axeman’ Frank Mitchel and disposing of the body of Jack ‘the Hat’ McVitie, the latter of which would cost him his freedom and all his money and financial assets. Paul Van Carter’s (The Guv'nor) FRED is an intimate and fascination documentary about one of the UK’s most notorious and intelligent criminals, and however you judge Freddie Foreman, there’s no doubt with a better education he would have become a formidable businessman. For anyone with half an interest into the criminal world FRED is a must-see documentary and comes highly recommended!
