ShowBiz Direct and Republic Pictures have released the official trailer for 'BAU, ARTIST AT WAR', the upcoming comedy-drama-romance inspired by the life of Holocaust survivor and artist Joseph Bau.
Directed by Sean McNamara (Reagan, Soul Surfer), the film stars Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild, Milk, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) as Joseph Bau, with Inbar Lavi (Lucifer, Imposters) as Rebecca, the fellow prisoner with whom he finds love during the Holocaust.
'BAU, ARTIST AT WAR' will premiere theatrically across the U.S. and Canada on September 26, 2025, distributed by ShowBiz Direct and Republic Pictures.
Based on Bau’s memoir, the film tells the remarkable true story of how he used his skills as an artist and forger to stay alive and help hundreds of others escape Nazi concentration camps. Using humour, creativity, and determination, Bau found hope in the darkest of places — and even love.
The ensemble cast includes Yan Tual (Outlander), Adam Tsekhman (Legends of Tomorrow), Josh Zuckerman (School Spirits), Edward Foy, Chris Cope, Josh Blacker, Eugene Lipinski, Dalias Blake, Pam Kearns, and Tori Griffith.
The screenplay was written by Deborah Smerecnik, Ron Bass, and Sonia Kifferstein, with McNamara also serving as one of the producers. Executive producers include James Truchard, Kelly Tate, Bruce D. Johnson, Lawrence Mortorff, Jeff Hays, Matthew Helderman, Thomas Mann, and Luke Taylor.
