Amicus Productions, the iconic name behind some of Britain’s most cherished horror anthologies, is set to make a return with 'IN THE GRIP OF TERROR,' their first anthology since 1974’s 'From Beyond the Grave.' This revival is already generating interest, with the announcement of Golden Globe nominee Jane Merrow joining the cast.
Merrow, known for her performances in classics such as The Lion in Winter and The System, will take on the role of Matron Margaret in the segment The One-Way Ward. This story, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s Cool Air, reimagines the tale in a hospital setting with a dark secret. Merrow’s role adds depth to this atmospheric segment.
Joining her is Megan Tremethick (Ghost Crew, The Slave and the Sorcerer), an actor praised for her nuanced performances. Tremethick’s addition brings fresh talent to the project.
Veteran actor Jonathan Hansler (Axed, The Devil’s Machine) also features as Professor Walker. Known for his intense performances, Hansler’s role in The One-Way Ward promises to stand out. Additionally, Chris Capaldi, previously the face of Scotch Beef, plays Doctor Richard Maitland, a character whose name nods to Amicus’ history.
Behind the Scenes
The film is directed by Lawrie Brewster (Automata, The Black Gloves), who co-produces alongside Sarah Daly. Sergei Subotsky—son of Amicus co-founder Milton Subotsky—serves as Executive Producer. This collaboration between Amicus Productions, the British Horror Studio, and Hex Studios aims to recapture the Gothic storytelling that defined Amicus’ earlier works.
The studio has released character photographs, offering a glimpse into the film’s atmospheric design.
Amicus’s anthology films, known for their interconnected tales, remain a cornerstone of British horror cinema. With 'IN THE GRIP OF TERROR,' the studio builds on this legacy with a fresh approach. Set for release in 2025, 'IN THE GRIP OF TERROR' aims to bring audiences back to the heyday of British horror while offering something new.
