'THE BITTER TASTE,' a new horror-action film from Germany, is set for its premiere at FrightFest Halloween on November 2. Directed by Guido Tölke, the film stars Julia Dordel as Marcia, a retired pentathlete who finds herself entangled in a life-or-death struggle after being captured by an undead countess and her cursed followers.
Relying on her rusty athletic skills, Marcia teams up with an unconventional fisherman and an irritable cop in a bid to survive. The story explores themes of endurance and unexpected alliances as Marcia and her companions navigate their terrifying surroundings.
Director Guido Tölke shares how 'THE BITTER TASTE' was inspired by his love for 80s classics like The Goonies, The Evil Dead 2, and The Thing. Initially planned as a “simple micro-budget project,” Tölke explains how the film grew into “our most ambitious project yet,” with co-writer Julia Dordel bringing the unique idea of using modern pentathlon as a theme. Tölke describes the journey as a “‘no holds barred’ effort” to blend action, horror, and mystery into a thrilling genre mix. After five years, he hopes it resonates with both horror fans and lovers of suspenseful adventure.
Adding to the film’s intensity is an atmospheric score by Clemens Damerau, perfectly underscoring the tension as Marcia and her allies face wave after wave of supernatural threats. Screenings on November 2 at 11:10 and 11:35 AM at FrightFest Halloween mark this film’s world debut. Tickets
