Millwall Hero Roy Larner's Brave Stand to be Brought to Life in ‘THE LION OF LONDON BRIDGE’
The remarkable real-life story of Roy Larner, who courageously confronted three machete-wielding terrorists during the 2017 Borough Market attack, is set to be immortalized on the big screen in the upcoming film, 'THE LION OF LONDON BRIDGE.'
The film is being produced and scripted by Dougie Brimson, CEO of Red Bus Movies, known for his work on films such as Green Street and We Still Kill the Old Way. Brimson, speaking about the project, said, “While many know what Roy did on that fateful night, very few are aware of the aftermath and the tragic injustice that followed. It’s a story that people don’t simply need to hear, it’s one they must hear.”

The announcement of the film garnered an overwhelming response on social media last week, including an offer for U.S. distribution and a flood of public support. Brimson noted, “People are eager to get involved because Roy represents the everyday working-class football fan. They see him as one of their own.” This connection was strikingly evident when a crowdfunding campaign to replace Larner’s lost glasses raised an astonishing £52,000, far surpassing the initial £500 goal.
Given this level of support, the filmmakers have opted to crowd-fund the development of the movie. “Crowd-funding gives Roy’s supporters a real stake in the film,” Brimson explained. “It also sends a clear message to the industry that the public wants this story told.”

Actor Leo Gregory (Green Street, Top Dog, Screws) is set to portray Roy Larner and will also serve as a producer alongside Brimson. Larner, who sustained severe injuries during the attack—including stab and slash wounds to his head, neck, back, and arms—will serve as a script consultant for the film. Despite his life-saving actions, which are believed to have saved around 30 lives, Larner was controversially denied the George Medal for bravery and has never received compensation for his injuries.
