BLUE JEAN won four BIFAs in 2022 and is nominated at the London Critics’ Circle Awards for Breakthrough Filmmaker.
Outline: England, 1988 is the setting for BLUE JEAN, as a law stigmatising gays and lesbians is set to be passed by Margaret Thatcher's Conservative administration, forcing Jean, a PE teacher, to lead a double life. The introduction of a new girl to the school sparks a crisis that will test Jean to her very core as pressure grows from all directions.
BIFA Best Lead Performance winner Rosy McEwen (THE ALIENIST), plays Jean alongside BIFA Best Supporting Performance winner Kerrie Hayes (THE RESPONDER) and newcomer Lucy Halliday as Lois. Stacy Abalogun (DEATH ON THE NILE), Lydia Page (THE WORST WITCH), Amy Booth-Steel (CALL THE MIDWIFE) and Farrah Cave round out the outstanding British cast.
In addition to Lead and Supporting Performance, BLUE JEAN also won Best Debut Screenwriter for Oakley and Best Casting for Shaheen Baig at BIFA and has received further acclaim at multiple festivals across Europe including the People’s Choice Award in the Giornate degli Autori at the Venice Film Festival.
BLUE JEAN will be previewing at Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT), HOME Manchester, Forum Cinema Hexham and Tyneside Cinema Newcastle from 6 February with writer/ director Georgia Oakley and key cast taking part in post screening Q&As.
