MUCH ADO is the second film from the Shakespeare Sisters.
The second film from the Shakespeare Sisters MUCH ADO will be opening the London Independent Film Festival this year and the teaser trailer has just been dropped ahead of the film’s premiere.
Based on the Shakespeare play ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, this adaptation sets Shakespeare’s classic rom-com in the modern day, with a teen angle. The film follows Hero (Jody Larcombe) and Beatrice (Emma Beth Jones), cousins and best friends who have very different approaches to love. Beatrice, burned once, is fiercely avoiding her arrogant ex-boyfriend Benedick (Johnny Lucas) and has sworn off men in general. Hero, a true romantic, is deeply in love with Benedick's friend Claudio (Luke Hunter), but too shy to say it. When they get trapped in a house with the entire boys rugby team, they'll be forced to face the questions they'd been avoiding.
The Shakespeare Sister’s first film was Soundtrack to Sixteen.
The Shakespeare Sister’s first film ‘Soundtrack to Sixteen’, a coming of age story set in London, came out in the UK in 2020 and was well received. They are continuing in the coming of age / teen genre with MUCH ADO and are set to write and direct the film adaptation of NYT bestselling author Becky Albertalli’s YA novel ‘The Upside of Unrequited’. They have also been working in the comedy space, co-writing and producing 'The Unreason’ a time-travel comedy starring Johnny Vegas, Sophie Thompson and Tony Way.
MUCH ADO will have its UK premiere on the 1st of April at Genesis Cinema followed by the US premiere at Cinequest, which runs from the 1st - 17th of April.
The sisters comment: “We are so excited that our second film is going to be on the big screen. We’ve really leaned into the wackiness of Shakespeare and we hope people enjoy it. This film was made in true indie fashion, we all lived in the same house for three weeks and a times the shoot felt a bit like Much Ado itself!”
