Entering into the ‘Cineframes launch event, there was the definite feeling of what it must be like to be Alice, falling into the rabbit hole and popping up in a new, fascinating kaleidoscope world. Given a clean white magnifying glass, which lit up, the helpful usherettes guided everyone as they entered the gallery space at Somerset House, which gave an immediate sense of entering a cocooned, passionate world of art and inspired imagination straight away.
Using the magnifying glass, it became very easy to see why. Each retro film poster, when zoomed in on, ( some using using touch screens), proved to be a pictures, within pictures, worlds within worlds. Each poster was intricately made up of a mosaic of stills shots from the film, with amazing attention to colour and detail from the artist, ‘Vass,’ resulting in an art experience that was dazzling and fun.
Definitely take a look at the website, www.cineframes.com where there’s a whole page of nostalgia meets technology to interact with. However, what is especially pertinent, is the current collection is also being auctioned for the charity, ‘Warchild.’ So, under each poster there’s a current bid. Bidding closes on 30th November, and it’ll be interesting to see which posters do the best!
What is also cutting edge about each poster, is it will be unique. Each poster comes with an NFT. And no film lovers, this does not mean National Film Theatre, it means ‘Non- Fungible-Token.’ This is essentially, data added to the artwork, to create a unique digital signature for a particular piece, to distinguish it from other replicas. NFT’s are a development used in ‘blockchain’, the decentralised database on the internet. But? Whether you’re into the technology or not, what cannot be disputed is just how appealing, and rather wonderful the ‘Cineframes collection’ is.
