THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN had its world premiere at the 2019 Austin Film Festival, winning the Jury & Audience awards for Best Narrative Feature Film.
THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN tells the true story of the final hours of the life of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr., an elderly African American veteran with bipolar disorder, who was killed during a conflict with police officers who were sent to his home to check on him.
At 5:22 AM on November 19, 2011, Chamberlain’s medical alert device was mistakenly activated; police arrived shortly thereafter. Despite Kenneth informing the officers there was a mistake and he did not have an emergency, they were recorded taunting Kenneth, ridiculing his military service, howling racial epithets at him, and finally, the officers broke his door down and shot him to death.
THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN speaks powerfully to our current national conversation about police brutality, institutional racism, and how we treat our most vulnerable citizens.
Executive Produced by Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary, David Midell's THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN is a real-life horror film opening September 17.
THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN will be in New York & six other US and Canadian cities (Chicago, Detroit, LA, Rockford, Ottawa, and Memphis (with more to come)) with a simultaneous TVOD release September 17th, 2021, by Gravitas VenturesDavid Midell.
