CEREBRUM is set for release in the UK on 13th September 2021.
Evolutionary Films are proud to present the debut feature from director Arvi and co-writer Gary D, the sci-fi thriller CEREBRUM, set for release in the UK on 13th September 2021. CEREBRUM explores the science of being able to back-up your brain and restore your memories digitally. In the movie, this is achieved through a device that Dr Kirk Davis (James Russo) has been working on illegally, since his wife passed away due to Alzheimer’s disease. From this basic premise, the film takes audiences on a thrilling adventure and you’ll be gripped by the twists and turns that CEREBRUM has in store.
CEREBRUM also offers a sense of drama, augmenting its sci-fi themes by adding the element of a murder-mystery storyline. Christian James plays the lead role of Tom Davis, who has been accused of the murder of his father. To carry on his father’s research, Tom digitally downloads his father’s memories into himself. Christian James has received high praise from critics for his portrayal of two characters in a standout performance.
Talented veteran James Russo plays Dr Kirk Davis, the slightly mad scientist, also known as the “Cowboy Einstien”. James Russo’s acting career spans five decades, he has starred in movies such as EXTREMITIES (1986), Kevin Costner's THE POSTMAN (1997), DONNIE BRASCO (1997) and OPEN RANGE (2003).
Synopsis - Desperate to pay bills, Tom reluctantly agrees to help his estranged dad, Kirk, with his secretive research. Aimed at curing Alzheimer's, the research focuses on digitally backing up a person's memory and replaying it when needed. A few days into the research, Kirk is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Cops arrive soon after and present a piece of video evidence, that shows Tom choking his father to death. Shaken by the revelation and having no recollection of the event, Tom panics and escapes from the authorities. With the help of his high school sweetheart Chloe and his dad’s memory backup, he sets up a new lab. He uploads his dad's memory onto himself and continues the research. This process creates unintended side-effects when Kirk's memory corrupts Tom's. Despite knowing his sanity is under question, Tom continues to finish his dad's research.
Director and writer Arvi said: “The seed for Cerebrum stemmed from the current social behavior, where all our memories including, personal photos, communications, finances, health information and others are stored in digital format. Cerebrum stretches this concept to explore what would happen if we can digitally record our memory. Like so many other scientific inventions, digital memory transfer gets misused for personal gains which forms the core of the story. The vision for Cerebrum is to not only entertain the audience, but also leave them with deep rooted questions about human behaviour and abuse of modern technology for mortal pleasures.”
