FLATLAND is a breathtakingly original journey of three extraordinary women on their difficult path to freedom.
Lauded South African writer/director Jenna Bass (Love The One You Love, High Fantasy) works her magic to bring a clever contemporary spin to the Western in new feature Flatland. This innovative and captivating film premiered at Berlin International Film Festival to critical acclaim and follows three women as their lives collide as they endeavour to escape. The film is set for its UK premiere courtesy of Bohemia Media on 17 August 2021 on the Bohemia Euphoria, followed by a digital release on 23 August 2021.
Set against the harsh and bleakly beautiful scenery of South Africa, the film takes the classically male-dominated western genre and turns it on its head, exploring the delicate issues of gender politics and consent through a female lens.
Suffering from anxiety Natalie (Nicole Fortuin - Dead In The Water, Rage) is already apprehensive about her impending nuptials, but when her wedding night ends in violence she flees the scene, her husband and her small rural town in the desolate Karoo region. Reuniting with her best friend, the heavily pregnant Poppie (Izel Bezuidenhout - Ring Of Beasts), the two women escape together on horseback across the endless winter landscape. But they're not out of the woods yet, as hot on their trail is lonely policewoman Beauty Cuba (Faith Baloyi - Tried To, Blowing In The Wind) who is intent on proving the innocence of her long-lost ex-fiancee, the man who has been framed for Natalie's crime.
