Synopsis: On Christmas Eve, an innocent couple become hosts to a malicious entity. Throughout the night they proceed to terrorize a family of five in unimaginably violent and disturbing ways. But these demonic possessions won't end with this unfortunate family; they mark just the beginning of a horrific worldwide epidemic. Beneath its nerve-jangling suspense, the film offers a dark and bloody insight into how lying to your loved ones can not only alienate them, it can completely destroy your bonds with them forever.
Directors Statement:
HOSTS was born through the mutual love of the horror genre and fascination in psychological manipulation that Richard and Adam both share. When in a vulnerable state, people’s perception of reality and decision making skills can be easily impaired and manipulated to the will of others. No matter how well you think you know somebody, you never truly know who they are underneath the deceiving facade. We only ever show the people around us what we want them to see.
“Live with a man for forty years. Eat the same meals, speak with him on every subject, then tie him up and hold him over the mouth of a volcano. On that day, you will meet the man.” - Joss Whedon.
We feel that telling this story in a traumatically visceral way and utilizing gore as a mechanism will aid in amplifying the shock factor of audiences around the globe. This is because in real life, it always takes something extreme to break down ones facade and only then do we see their true inner demons. What’s even more frightening is the uncertainty that we have of ourselves, masking our own weaknesses and insecurities with the character and personality that we only obsess over being.
HOST is directed by Adam Leader and Richard Oakes.
Cast: Neal Ward (Two Graves, To Dream), Samantha Loxley (Election Night, Skin Deep), Frank Jakeman (A View to Kill, Rise of the Krays), Nadia Lamin, Lee Hunter (Vikings, Eastenders), Jennifer Preston, Buddy Skelton (Trigger Finger).
HOST is released on Digital Platforms 2nd October 2020, and will celebrate its London Premiere at FrightFest on Saturday 24th 2020. Tickets
