Synopsis: Cordelia (Antonia Campbell-Hughes) lives with her twin sister Caroline (Campbell-Hughes) in their central London basement flat. Years earlier, Cordelia had been caught up in a traumatic event that left her guilt-ridden and fragile. Her gradual recovery and search for independence is jeopardised when her sister leaves for a weekend away. For the first time she meets her mysterious neighbour Frank (Johnny Flynn), a cellist whose music has intrigued her. As their relationship develops, Cordelia becomes convinced she is being stalked. Increasingly anxious and unsure of Frank’s motives, Cordelia begins to unravel.
The idea for CORDELIA was hatched more than a decade ago by director Adrian Shergold.
The idea for CORDELIA was hatched more than a decade ago by Adrian Shergold, a veteran film and TV director whose most recent credits include Funny Cow with Maxine Peake and Denmark with Rafe Spall, as well as Sky One’s hugely successful series Mad Dogs. Back then, Shergold had Sally Hawkins in mind to play the lead, bouncing ideas off the Oscar-nominated actress who would eventually take an executive producer credit on the final film. “I worked with Sally in 2007 on Persuasion,” Shergold recalls. “We became friends and started talking about trying to make a film together. We were both fans of the Patrick Hamilton’s novels Hangover Square, The Slaves of Solitude, and also the films of Joseph Losey, Karel Reisz, and over many cups of coffee Cordelia emerged.”
