He Who Dares is a violent tale of a daring Christmas Eve kidnap plot involving the British prime minister's daughter. It stars Tom Benedict Knight (Kick Ass-2), Ben Lloyd-Holmes (Skyfall) and Simon Phillips (The Fall of the Essex Boys). Holt (played by Phillips) is the leader of the terrorist kidnappers. He's cold blooded, funny at times, but he'll not think twice about putting a bullet in you. His plan is to hole up 15 storeys below a central London car park, and, to the bemusement of the police, make ransom demands for the release of prisoners. Without giving any specific spoilers, he has a much more ambitious plan. Enter the SAS, led by Christopher Lowe (played by Benedict Knight). He’s impatient and breaks protocol by taking his team on a relentless set of battles and fights fuelled by the honourable need to set the PM's daughter free and - let’s be frank - kill some bad guys.
Director Paul Tanter (The Rise & Fall of a White Collar Hooligan) doesn't disappoint with some cracking shoot outs and hand to hand combat. Phillips revels in the larger than life, evil kingpin role, and it's an exciting surprise when the martial arts bombshell Zara Phythian gets to show off a roundhouse or two.
Despite wearing its influences (Die Hard) and inspirations (The Raid, Taken) on its sleeve, the film’s execution of the story is a little undercooked in direct comparison with these classics of the action/thriller genre.
